Anti-racism consultants darvaja in conversation with Clean Break
The theme of Black History Month 2022 was ‘Actions Not Words’, a clear and unapologetic demand for our anti-racist practice to move away from performative gestures and towards tangible actions, working to dismantle white supremacy.
Our Head of Participation and Deputy CEO Jacqueline Stewart interviewed Amardeep Kainth, Director of darvaja, a collective of social development practitioners whose specialisms include anti-racism, anti-oppression and de-colonisation. For the past two years, Clean Break has been working with darvaja to transform our organisational approach to anti-racism. We have had the privilege of working closely alongside Amardeep and the team at darvaja in this journey, for which we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone.
We invited Amardeep and Jacqueline to reflect on what ‘Action Not Words’ means to them and are delighted to share their rich and enlightening conversation. The discussion covers how organisations and individuals can move away from empty gestures and commit to action; what the experience of Clean Break and darvaja working together has brought; and the Black women activists from the past and present who inspire their practices.
