More Than One Story

Short films from Cardboard Citizens, starring Clean Break Member artists

More Than One Story is a series of nine short films that aims to disrupt stereotypes, generalisations and misconceptions around homelessness in the UK today, as rising numbers of people are unseen, unheard and overlooked.

Commissioned by Cardboard Citizens, a co-production with Black Apron Entertainment and in partnership with the Big Issue, More Than One Story aims to shine a light on the diverse intersectional factors that cause and exacerbate homelessness.

Written and performed by 18 artists and Cardboard Citizens Members, each with their own lived experience of homelessness, poverty or inequity.

Cardboard Citizens has been creating life-affirming theatre with people experiencing homelessness, poverty or inequity for over 30 years.

Clean Break are proud to share three of the nine short films that are performed by Cardboard Citizens and Clean Break Member artists.

Boiling Frogs

A story about growing up in the shadow of domestic violence written by Kayleigh Llewellyn, performed by Natasha Jean Sparkes and directed by Chris Sonnex. Read Clean Break Member Claire's review of Boiling Frogs.

Sandwiches

A poignant story about street sleeping, written by Naomi Westerman, performed by Oriana White and directed by Chris Sonnex. Read Clean Break Member Su's review of Sandwiches.

Snakes and Landlords

A story of homelessness and poverty, and the courage to speak the truth in a society that has turned its back on understanding. Written by Debbie Hannan, performed by Yvonne Wickham and directed by Chris Sonnex.

This film contains themes of: Homeless, poverty and inequity, discrimination, contains strong language.
