We are offering theatre students and early career artists who identify as women the opportunity to take part in our first intensive and immersive four-day LAB in a women-only setting.
The LAB is a unique opportunity to work with Clean Break’s Joint Artistic Directors, Anna Herrmann and Roisin McBrinn, to learn about Clean Break’s specialised approach to theatre and criminal justice.
Working collaboratively with Clean Break Members, you will develop new skills through a combination of practical and taught sessions and explore the central themes of resilience, voice, and justice through theatre: what does empowerment look like? Whose voices are being fore-fronted and how do we address provocations around issues of justice, crime and punishment?
Dedicated sessions will focus on i) theatre in prison settings, and ii) trauma-informed practice. Throughout the week we will draw on Clean Break’s best practice, developed and refined over our 40 years in the industry. At the end of the workshop, there will be a creative sharing of work created over the four days.
The LAB is right for you if you are:
• A student of Applied Theatre or Performance studies at BA or MA level or an early career artist who identifies as a woman
• Passionate about women’s experiences and committed to social justice
• Interested in theatre practice in prisons, or in criminal justice and community settings
